Volkswagen reveals Golf Match Edition trim

Volkswagen has refreshed the Golf with a new Match Edition trim level, building on the Match’s already high levels of standard equipment. Does this new model make the Golf more appealing than rivals such as the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series? Read on to find out.

The outgoing ‘Match’ trim was already very well-equipped, featuring front and rear parking sensors, electrically folding mirrors and front fog lights but the new model offers numerous additional features as standard.

A 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system controls the radio, CD player and sat-nav. European mapping has been preloaded at no extra cost and the standard ‘Car-Net Guide’ system relays weather, traffic and parking information directly to the driver.

Bluetooth connectivity, media streaming and eight speakers are fitted as standard, along with air conditioning and a stop/start system. Optional extras include park-assist, a rear-view camera, keyless entry and a panoramic sunroof.

New collision mitigation systems have been added to the Match Edition including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. The same seven airbags fitted to other Golf models are present, along with the requisite host of driving aids.

The Match Edition trim is available on both the Golf and the Golf Bluemotion, priced from £20,400 and £19,840 respectively – just £100 more than a comparable standard car. Orders are being taken now and deliveries are expected to start in January 2016.
