Entry-level S models come with loads of safety kit but not much else. You get lane-departure warning, traffic-sign recognition, adaptive cruise control and a system that’ll brake automatically to help prevent collisions but there’s no touchscreen infotainment system, DAB digital radio or Bluetooth connectivity. For those you’ll have to spend extra and get an SE model.

SE models come with the same raft of safety equipment as S versions (including lane-departure warning, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking) but, crucially, add a few extra luxuries. So you get DAB digital radio, Bluetooth connectivity, air conditioning, steering wheel-mounted controls and 16-inch wheels as standard.

SR models come with a few extra features over SE and S versions, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, satellite navigation, a reversing camera, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, tinted rear windows and 17-inch alloy wheels. Also standard are automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, active cruise control, lane-departure warning and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

Sport models are worth considering if you’re after a more aggressive-looking Civic. They come with 17-inch alloy wheels and twin exhausts on the outside and dual-zone climate control, an eight-speaker stereo system with DAB digital radio on the inside. Also standard is a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, metal pedal trims, a reversing camera and front and rear parking sensors. Automatic emergency braking (that’ll stop the car if senses an obstacle ahead) also comes fitted.

High-spec EX models are well worth paying a little extra for. They come with heated leather front seats, an upgraded 11-speaker stereo system with DAB digital radio and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring. You also get adjustable lumbar support for the front passenger seat to reduce backache on long drives, a panoramic glass roof, wireless smartphone charging, 17-inch alloy wheels and adaptive suspension (which helps make the Civic as comfortable to drive as possible).

The EX Sport Line adds sporty styling elements including a rear spoiler, black wheels, black sill trims, bumper extensions and red dashboard lighting to the satnav, climate control, glass sunroof, heated seats and rear view camera of the standard EX.
