SE models offer the best value in the range. On top of the standard car’s eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, air conditioning, automatic emergency braking and auto headlights, SEs add smartphone-mirroring so you can use your phone’s sat-nav on the car’s big screen, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, 15-inch alloy wheels and an alarm.

Beats models are great if you love music. They come with a powerful 300w Beats sound system that’ll keep up with even the most energetic of musical tastes. Smartphone-mirroring means you can use your phone’s sat-nav on the car’s big screen and you also get tinted windows and red interior details.

Match spec bundles together useful features including a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto compatibility and online services, aircon, Bluetooth, DAB radio, front and rear parking sensors, front and rear electric windows and 15-inch alloy wheels.

Active models get 15in alloy wheels as standard, along with proper dual-zone climate control, electrically-heated door mirrors and ambient lighting in the front foot well. Satellite navigation with live traffic information is also included.

Entry-level Life versions of the VW Polo get 15-inch alloy wheels, electric front and rear windows, LED headlights, air-con and an eight-inch infotainment screen. On the safety feature front, there are standard-fit lane keep and hill start assists, a driver drowsiness monitor and autonomous emergency braking.

This is the most luxurious Polo in the range. You get dual-zone climate control, built in satellite navigation, front and rear parking sensors, a front centre armrest, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlights and 16-inch alloys. SE L models also have smartphone-mirroring so you can use your phone’s sat-nav (and other apps) on the car’s big screen

The Polo R-line gets pretty close to the looks of the sporty GTI model. It comes with 16-inch alloys, styled front and rear bumpers, a black roof spoiler, tinted rear windows and rear LED lights. Inside, there’s also an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, air conditioning, front and rear parking sensors, auto LED headlights and rain-sensing wipers.

The mid-range Style trim adds a few swish design elements to the VW Polo, such as 16-inch alloys, ambient interior lighting and sharp-looking Matrix LED headlights. It also brings to the table climate control, front seat lumbar support, adaptive cruise control and front and rear parking sensors.
