Rather confusingly, entry level Niros are called 2 models. They come as standard with rear parking sensors, a reversing camera and a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation, DAB digital radio and Android Auto smartphone mirroring. If you want leather seats, however, you’ll have to upgrade to a mid-range 3 model.

On the mid-spec ‘3’, you’ll find a larger seven-inch driver’s display, a10-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone charging and black leather upholstery, as well as heated seats and steering wheel. You also get 18-inch alloys, reversing camera and forward collision assist.

Top-spec 4 models come with the same equipment as 3 versions, so you get heated leather seats, parking sensors, an eight-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation, DAB digital radio, Android Auto smartphone mirroring and a JBL stereo. But you’re also treated to an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory functions, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking (a system that’ll stop the car for you if it senses an imminent collision).
