Fiat’s new crossover is launched as a special Opening Edition model, featuring up to £2,850 of optional extras at no added cost

Fiat has opened the order books for the FIAT 500x crossover, and a special “Opening Edition” model is available at launch to mark the occasion.

The new model, which can consider the Mini Countryman to be its closest rival, throws in a range of optional extras for free.

As we explained when we announced details of the 500x range in October, the 500x range will be offered in two variants; the front-wheel drive “City Look” and the all wheel drive “off road look.” 500 examples of the Opening Edition will be sold in the UK – of those, 325 will be the front-wheel drive 4×2 model, while the remaining 175 examples will be based on the all-wheel drive (AWD) model.

The 4×2 Opening Edition is based on the Pop Star trim level (clearly Fiat is taking on the Vauxhall Adam for silliest trim names), but differs on the outside thanks to a new larger 18-inch wheel design and an “Art Grey” paint finish. Inside, the Safety Pack, which includes lane departure warning, blind spot assist, reversing camera and a Brake Control collision mitigation system, is included as standard, as is keyless entry and start. Tinted rear windows and special badging add further subtle changes.

The 4×2 is powered by the 140hp 1.4-litre turbo engine, while the the chunkier-looking AWD version is equipped with the larger 2.0-litre turbo diesel, also rated at 140hp. Finished in “Amore Red” the AWD gains a black leather interior with red trim, rain sensing wipers, electrically folding door mirrors, and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters for the nine speed automatic gearbox.

How much will they cost?

the 4×2 costs £17,595, while the AWD model costs from £25,845. With all of the extra goodies included at no extra cost, these two models represent savings of £1,725 and £2,850 respectively over regular versions. Both models are available to order now, with first deliveries starting in May.
