Volkswagen Polo Interior & Exterior Design
Overview
The latest generation gets a new rear tail light design that mimics the Golf’s, and a daytime running LED strip along the front grille. These, along with the digital driver’s display that are now standard across all trims, have really refined and modernised the Polo. There are four trims to choose from; three are below and there's a dedicated review on the faster, sportier Polo GTI. Each of these have different options that affect the look of the Polo. Here’s a breakdown of the most obvious changes between them:

Trims
Life
Exterior
You may get the small 15-inch wheels on the Life trim, but at least they’re proper alloys. They’re called ‘Essex’ wheels. A slightly odd name for a wheel design, but they do look rather neat and despite their size, they don’t look out of proportion to the rest of the car.
Interior
Compared to the other trims, the Life has to make do with traditional knobs instead of touch sensitive buttons to control the climate settings. Although they’re not as futuristic, traditional knobs are a lot easier to adjust as you drive. The cloth seats look rather bland, but you do get leather on the handbrake and steering wheel.
Style
Exterior
The real visible difference with the Style is that you get two chrome strips along the front bumper grille. They’re subtle, but not quite as subtle as the upgraded 16-inch alloy wheels. They don’t look much bigger, but they do look sportier and have a better name than the entry-level rims. ‘Palermo’ is a bit more exotic than ‘Essex’.
Interior
You still get cloth seats with the Style trim, although these are a sporiter design with a centre stipe, and supportive sides on the front seats. The real changes are the bigger digital driver’s display and infotainment touchscreen, together with the iron gloss effect on the dash, it looks really sleek and up-market.
R-Line
Exterior
The R-Line is supposed to make the Polo look sportier, although that’s rather subjective. The tinted rear windows and blacked out front bumper grille do look more aggressive and sleek. However, Volkswagen may have gone too far with sporty styling on this trim, as they’ve added chrome highlights to the fake exhaust effect on the rear bumper. To put it mildly, it looks rather silly.
Interior
Inside, the R-Line definitely looks sporty. The R-Line seats with their quilt effect look the part, although they’re just cloth seats, so no fancy Alcantara. The headlining is black and this adds to the sporty feel, although it does make the cabin a lot darker. For the drivers, brushed stainless steel pedals for added sportiness.
