Skoda Octavia interior

If you want to be wowed each morning when you climb into your car, the Skoda Octavia won’t be for you. However, it feels built to last which important in a family car.

Style

The Skoda Octavia’s interior is designed to functional rather than fun. There has been an attempt to liven things up, such as the silver trim that runs the width of the dash across its middle but truth be told the majority of the inside is either black or grey.

However, SE-L models come with ambient lighting and it’s available as an option on entry-level SE cars, and leather seats are a surprisingly cheap option on SE-L too.

And although Skoda had to sit quietly in the corner at the Volkswagen Group interior trim meeting, it does at least benefit from the excellent fit and finish that Volkswagen and Seat also come with. The switches, trim pieces and air vents all feel like they’re up to years of abuse.

Adding ambient lighting to an Octavia is a bit like hanging a disco ball in a church, but at least everything is very well screwed together

Infotainment

Entry-level SE Octavia cars come with an 8-inch touchscreen that features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, DAB radio and Bluetooth. You also get no less than five USB charging points. This system is snappy in its response and very easy to navigate your way around.

Step up to SE Technology and beyond and Skoda includes a more visually appealing 10-inch screen instead, as well as a built-in sat-nav. It’s the same basic system behind the scenes, so is every bit as quick and thoughtfully laid out. With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto so good these days, we wouldn’t upgrade to just have the built-in sat-nav, though.

No matter which Octavia you buy the driver gets 10-inch digital dials. They look fantastic and are easily configurable, with the ability to show either various trip and car info or the sat-nav’s map if you have it on your model.

The Octavia comes with an eight-speaker sound system as standard, but you can upgrade this to a 12-speaker Canton system for a reasonable fee.
