Mercedes S-Class Saloon interior
The interior looks absolutely stunning and the quality is incredible, though the screen behind the steering wheel looks like it’s plonked on top of the steering column.
Style
Absolutely stunning. The dashboard is properly swoopy, with four slimline vents in a ‘pod’ along the top, and is available with a variety of high-class finishes, including piano black and luxury-yacht wood. It’s just a shame there’s just the odd piece of sub-standard plastic in your eyeline.
There’s a beautiful large touchscreen front and centre through which you control most of the car’s functions, and the rest of the cabin features mood lighting that you can change the colour of should you wish.
You can choose to have a panoramic glass roof to make the interior even brighter, and you can have either a three-seat bench or two individual ‘executive’ seats in the rear.
The front seats have up to 19 motors to allow you to set exactly the perfect driving position, and to make sure your backside is heated or cooled just the way you like. If the traffic’s making you a bit tense, you can even choose one of the many massage settings to soothe away the strains.

Infotainment
For a start, the screen is huge. Perhaps not quite Vue cinema huge, but not far off, and it uses OLED technology so is a real feast for the eyes. In fact it’s so big that Mercedes has had to get rid of 27 physical buttons from the cabin, although only time will tell whether or not this is actually a good thing.
The central scroll wheel and buttons for the infotainment set-up are also absent in the new car, which seems like it could be a backwards step.
Still, the screen offers haptic feedback and recognises when your finger is close. The system also contains fingerprint or facial-recognition security, and the system can also recognise your voice, and will set everything how you like it when it hears you.
To stop you from getting lost, there’s also a new head-up display with animations to show you the way, and the S-Class can also tell which way you’re looking.
So, if you suddenly turn to look over your shoulder, it will lower the rear window blind to help you out. It can even tell which door mirror you want to adjust simply by the way your head is pointing. Clever.
