Mercedes CLS interior
The CLS has inherited lots of bits and piece from the Mercedes E- and S-Class, and that gives it a really high-class look and feel
Style
If you’ve ever sat inside Mercedes’ latest E- or S-Class, you’ll find that the Mercedes CLS looks very familiar – but, in this case, familiarity breeds contentment. This is a very classy cabin, built from high-quality materials that reassure you that you’ve spent your money wisely.
Leather upholstery is standard across the range, for instance, as are two 12.3-inch digital displays on the dashboard. These can be fully customised and give the interior a high-tech, modern feel.
More than anything, it’s the little details that impress you: things like the ambient mood lighting that offers a choice of 64 colours, and the way the lights in the turbine-style air vents change colour as you adjust the temperature.
The Mercedes’ two large digital displays make the cabin feel like an extremely well appointed branch of Currys

Infotainment
Watch our Mercedes CLS interior and infotainment review
Every car in the Mercedes CLS range comes with a fully digital dashboard, made up of two 12.3-inch screens that sit side-by side. Each can be adjusted to show the information you want at any given moment.
It’s all very easy to use, with several different ways to operate most of the functions. The menus and functions on the central screen can be controlled using the rotary controller and touch-pad on the centre console, with several short-cut buttons to take you through to various functions, such as the stereo and sat-nav.
You can also control things from the touch-sensitive panels on the steering wheel, as well as having the option of voice control. All in all, it’s an excellent system that makes it easy for you to control what is an awful lot of technology – even if you will need a little time to discover everything that is possible.
The standard stereo system comes with DAB digital radio and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as an input for an iPhone or iPod. You can upgrade to an excellent Burmester surround sound system, but it’s only available as part of the Premium Equipment Line package.
Overall, this is good value, as it also contains a surround-view camera system, a glass sunroof, a memory package for the electrically operated front seats and the Comand Online system, with a WiFi hotspot and smartphone mirroring, as well as several online services. However, the whole thing costs almost £4,000 and it’s a shame you can’t specify just the upgraded stereo.
